A baby hoolock (Bunopithecus hoolock) was reportedly born at the Beijing Zoo. This gibbon is one of the most endangered primate species in China.

Since many years, hoolocks have been kept at the Beijing Zoo, as well as in several other Chinese zoos. In recent years, no captive hoolocks have been confirmed for zoos.outside of Asia.

This species has been bred in captivity only very times. Nevertheless, according to the zoo report, this is the second time in two decades that hoolocks gave birth at the Beijing Zoo.
