Comments:
With a very few individuals, which is othewise the last surviving population in Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary, gibbons are facing serious threat in terms of survival due to rapid habitat fragmentation and change in vegetationstructure.

Research objectives:
To study the impact of forest fragmentation on hoolock gibbons.

Comments:
Sites range in size from 3 to 280 sq.km, lowland Assam Valley Dipterocarp-Mesua forest, mostly flat terrain. A few of the sites are undulating to hilly. The smaller fragment forests are in matrices of tea-plantation and paddy cultivation.

Comments:
Borajan Wildlife Sanctuary covers an area of about 5.02 square km and is a representative of an isolated, small forest pocket.

Namdapha National Park covers an area of about 1,985 square km. The altitude ranges from 200-4,500 msl. Four species of wild cats also occur in the area. A tiger project is also located there.
